Perelman Says “Nyet!” to $1 Million Prize

Russian mathematician Grigori Perelman has declined $1,000,000 from the Clay Mathematics Institute for having proved the Poincaré conjecture in 2006.
In his rejection, which he relayed to the Institute in late June, 2010, Perelman noted that Richard Hamilton, who had contributed to the exceptionally difficult solution, had not been offered any prize money.
In 2006, Perelman declined the Fields Medal—and the cash that came with it.
