Math in the NewsMathematician Stepping on Thin IceSan Diego’s Union Tribune profiles University of Utah mathematician Ken Golden who presented the Porter Public Lecture “Mathematics and the melting of the polar ice caps” at the 2013 Joint Mathematics Meetings. As a kind of mathematical Indiana Jones, Golden has achieved a rock star status rare among academics. The prestigious research journal Science ran a profile of Golden in 2009. Fans lined up for autographs at the conference this week, and are expected to fill his lecture: one of two public events at the mostly technical conference. |
