N Ways to Apply Algebra with The New York Times
Patrick Honner returns to this summer’s controversial debate “Is Algebra Necessary?” in a recent article for The New York Times. Honner, a math teacher at Brooklyn Technical High School, presents activities geared towards teachers and students. Activities include using algebra to evaluate the housing market, exploring data from the 2012 Olympic Games, and determining where candidates should spend campaign funds to win this year’s presidential election.
Honner, writing on his blog, said “Algebra may not be necessary, but it sure is useful!”
