CBMS Releases New Report on the Mathematical Education of Teachers
The Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences (CBMS) recently released The Mathematical Education of Teachers II (MET II) report. The report focuses on two questions: What mathematics do teachers need to know and how can mathematicians aid teachers in learning this mathematics, in collaboration with others responsible for teacher education?
MET II updates MET I, which was published in 2001, and, according to an official CBMS press release, “extends its scope from preparation to professional development in the context of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics.”
