A Day to Celebrate a Woman Who Saw the Future of Computers

December 11, 2012, marked the 197th birthday of Ada Lovelace, a English countess credited as the “first computer programmer”. Several news organizations and Google’s daily doodle, celebrated her legacy.

The Christian Science Monitor discusses her work and relationship with Charles Babbage, ‘the father of the computer”. The article, by David Clark Scott, includes Babbage’s famous description of Lovelace:

"Forget this world and all its troubles and if possible

its multitudinous Charlatans--everything in short but

the Enchantress of Numbers."

An article in Smithsonian Magazine talks about Ada Lovelace Day and how she’s used around the world as a symbol to bolster support for girls pursuing science.
