Three MAA Articles Ranked as The Best Writing on Mathematics 2011

Princeton University Press just released The Best Writing on Mathematics 2011, an annual anthology edited by Mircea Pitici (Cornell University).
This year’s edition includes three articles from MAA periodicals:
“Under-represented Then Over-represented: A Memoir of Jews in American Mathematics,” by Reuben Hersh, The College Mathematics Journal, 41.1(2010):2-9.
“Teaching Research: Encouraging Discoveries,” by Francis Edward Su, The American Mathematical Monthly, 117.9(2010):759-69.
“The Quest for God’s Number,” by Rik van Grol, Math Horizons, November 2010:10-13.

The Best Writing on Mathematics 2010 featured two MAA selections: Keith Devlin's MAA column “What Is Experimental Mathematics?” and Judith Grabiner’s award-winning article “Why Did Lagrange ‘Prove’ the Parallel Postulate?” (The American Mathematical Monthly, January 2009, pp. 3-18. Grabiner’s article was reprinted in A Historian Looks Back.
