Danish astronomer Longomontanus died in Copenhagen. Despite humble beginnings, he assisted Tycho Brahe and became chair of mathematics at the University of Copenhagen.

John Greaves, measurer of pyramids, died in London, England. He was Professor of Geometry at Gresham College, but was most interested in measurement in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome and traveled to Egypt to measure the pyramids.
