Maclaurin, at age 19, appointed to the Mathematics Chair at Marischal College, Aberdeen, Scotland. In 1725 he was made Professor at Edinburgh University on the recommendation of Newton.

Robert Adrain born in Ireland. He fled Ireland after participating in an unsuccessful rebellion, and became one of the first creative mathematicians to work in his new country, the United States.

Dirk Struik born in Rotterdam, Holland. A mathematician and a historian of mathematics and science, he spent most of his career at MIT.
