Balancing conceptual with formal   COURSE_COMMUNITIES_HTML_ID

Topic Teaching Tip(s): General principles of mathematical communication | Balancing conceptual with formal

Students of mathematics often have trouble appropriately deciding when to build conceptual understanding and when to present ideas formally; additionally, students often dont realize that conceptual explanations must be as carefully constructed as formal presentations. This webpage provides sample recitations, writing exercises, proofs, and presentations that can be used to help students understand how to effectively build conceptual understanding, how to present mathematics formally and when to do each.
