Numerical Methods for Differential Equations   COURSE_COMMUNITIES_MATHEMATICA_ID

Course Topic(s): One-Variable Calculus | Differential Equations

Students can choose from seven first order differential equations and set the interval, initial value and step size. The applet then shows the graph of the exact solution along with a numerical solution using one of the four methods: Euler, implicit Euler, Heun or Runge-Kutta. Sudents do not need to compute anything. The explanation fails to say \(x_0\) is the same as \(a\), which is the left endpoint. Also the four methods are listed, but only Euler's method is explained. While there is a reference for Runge-Kutta, there are none for implicit Euler or Heun.
