| 1752 | Gabriel Cramer died while traveling from his hometown of Geneva, Switzerland, to the south of France. Best known for Cramer's Rule for solving systems of equations, he worked primarily in analysis.

| 1845 | Italian geometer Giusto Bellavitis appointed full professor of descriptive geometry at the University of Padua following a competitive examination. He held no degrees until the university awarded him an honorary doctorate in philosophy and mathematics the following year.
