| 1537 | Franciscus Barocius born on the Island of Crete. In 1560 he published the first important translation of Proclus' commentary on the first book of Euclid's Elements. In 1587 he was brought before the Inquisition on charges of sorcery, more particularly of having caused a torrential rainstorm in Crete.
