About the Author: (from The American Mathematical Monthly November, 2000) Edward B. Burger, while usually seen around Williams College, has been recently spotted as an Ulam Visiting Professor at the University of Colorado and a Visiting Fellow at Macquarie University. He is the author of several books including Exploring the Number Jungle: An Interactive Journey into Diophantine Analysis, Think Calculus-a virtual video textbook, and coauthor of The Heart of Mathematics: An invitation to effective thinking. Some of his other works have been featured on National Public Radio. He has received the 2000 Northeastern MAA Award for Distinguished Teaching (Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching of Mathematics).
