About the Author: (from The American Mathematical Monthly, vol. 80, (1973)) Lynn A. Steen received his MIT Ph.D. under Kenneth Hoffman. Since then he has been on the staff at St. Olaf College except for a year’s leave at the Mittag-Leffler Institute on a NSF Fellowship. He is an Associate Editor of the Monthly and his publications include Counterexamples in Topology (with J.A. Seebach, Jr., Holt Rinehart & Winston, 1970).
