About the Author: (from The American Mathematical Monthly, vol. 86, (1979)) Karel Hrbacek studied mathematics at Charles University in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he earned the RNDr. degree under Petr Vopenka for work on forcing and large cardinals. He was an Exchange Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley and a Research Associate at Rockefeller University before joining the Department of Mathematics at the City College of New York in 1971. His research interests are in set theory, related areas of logic and generalized recursion theory, and Nonstandard Analysis.
