About the Author: (from The American Mathematical Monthly, vol. 89, (1982)) Tony Rothman received a B.A. in physics from Swarthmore College and is now completing his doctoral research at the Center for Relativity at the University of Texas in Austin. His dissertation concerns nonstandard cosmological models of the early universe. Next year he hill be a visiting fellow at Oxford. He is author of a novel, The World in Round (Ballantine Books, 1978), as well as numerous shorter works.
