Year of Award: 1995
Publication Information: The American Mathematical Monthly, vol. 101, 1994, pp. 819-832
Summary: The author’s main purpose is to show (by an analysis of Cantor’s original articles) that Cantor’s methods lead to computer programs that generate transcendentals and determine which transcendentals are generated by the diagonal method.
About the Author: (from Notices of the AMS, Nov. 1995) Robert Gray studied mathematics as an undergraduate at the California Institute of Technology and as a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
