About the Author: (from The American Mathematical Monthly, vol. 105 (1998)) Jerry L. Kazdan was an undergraduate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a graduate student at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences (New York University). His main interests are partial differential equations and differential geometry. Since 1966 he has been at the University of Pennsylvania, and has taught at Harvard, Berkeley, UC Davis, and Tokyo as well as an invited guest at many universities throughout the world.
