Basic Library List Ratings
The Basic Library List Committee rates books according to the strength of its recommendation. If the book has an MAA Review, you will find the rating below it. If not, the rating will appear as the MAA Review.
Using the Advanced Search, you can find books with the highest rating by searching on "BLL***" (BLL*** in quotes), and so on. The other ratings are more troublesome because search on "BLL**" will find both two-star and three-star books. However, searching on "BLL**&160;" will find only two-star books.
As of June 10, we are still working on adding ratings to all BLL books. We have finished the three-star and two-star books, and are about to start on the one-star books.
The ratings currently in use are listed below.
BLL — The Basic Library List Committee suggests that undergraduate mathematics libraries consider this book for acquisition.
BLL* — The Basic Library List Committee recommends this book for acquisition by undergraduate mathematics libraries.
BLL** — The Basic Library List Committee strongly recommends this book for acquisition by undergraduate mathematics libraries.
BLL*** — The Basic Library List Committee considers this book essential for undergraduate mathematics libraries.
